Flailing

I’m tired and exasperated.
My head is barely above water.
I’m lost in a sea of confusion,
I’m shipwrecked; marooned.

I wish I could row back,
But my map has been broken
Burned to ashes like the bridges
I’ve been trying to save with futility.

The water feels like shattered glass,
Not cold to the touch, but searing.
I turn into a writhing mess,
Swimming in distorted circles.

I’ve lost my way.
Take me back.
Where is the lighthouse
I’ve known my whole life?
