They say that best friends are siblings God forgot to give.
Well, I beg to differ. Best friends are siblings that God didn’t forget to give. He gave them, and it’s up to you to see if they’re worth being called siblings.
I can surely attest to this. Take my word for it — even if it might not work for you, it works, period. My best friends, I grew up with them, and I am very blessed and happy that even after grade school and high school have passed, we’re still in contact with each other. More particularly, my guy best friend. I do believe I am closer to him because 1) He left for abroad later than my girl best friend — giving us more time, and ultimately being able to check the waters of adolescence/puberty together; 2) I kept in contact with him even when he left for New York, and; 3) I do think we’ve more common interests.
Now, I’m not saying that he surpasses my girl best friend because of the aforementioned. It’s just that he ‘stuck’ with me longer, and I truly appreciate that. No exaggerations, he’s been there through thick and thin. Through every spider, grasshopper, fly and ant we catch, he was always part of it. (Speaking of ants, I remember that time we blowtorched ants with a box of matches and his dad’s cologne.)
My guy best friend came to visit. He’s been here since the 14th of July — but went home to his parent’s province. I met with him today — through a tedious and agonizing (kidding) arrangement of schedule. Tedious, on my part, because he has all the time in the world, while I have school. Thankfully, my class today (Why did I have class, today was a holiday!) got cancelled. So I was able to happily get to SM Megamall with my brother. We waited (an agonizingly boring wait for my brother that he wanted to plank inside the coffee shop) for them (best and his cousin, aunt and mum.) for two hours or so. It was a nervous time for me, I kept thinking too much. What do I say first? How do I greet them? and so much more. I prayed beforehand (way before!) that God would grant me peace and that He give me the right amount of excitement and anticipation. And that, He did!
In a nutshell, I enjoyed today with my best friend. Walking around the mall with him, my brother and his cousin was alright, I wouldn’t ask for anything else. (Although we were supposed to watch a movie, but something came up.) We passed through Toy Kingdom (he said he was embarrassed to go inside, HAHA) but when we passed by the LEGO shelves, he began to reminisce, and I smiled. I told him, Remember, you had that one? I pointed to the Dragon Egg LEGO. He replied, You still remember that? I nodded and thought, You don’t know half of what I remember.
I’m just truly very blessed and thankful to the Lord that He gave this opportunity to meet up with him. We’ll be catching up with each other, we’re meeting again tomorrow. (I won’t even include the bad train ride home)
He’s my brother, my best friend, and I wouldn’t be any more thankful. I’ve got two biological brothers, but he’s definitely someone I’d add as a sibling.
Friends are great to be with, but best friends will always be the ones you’ll stick with, even if both of you aren’t in a good mood — you’d choose to stay. Best friends are deemed siblings that way, because when you get mad at your brother/sister, you can’t just leave and disown them. You will be forever connected.
